Panopto Video Capture
Panopto is an integrated video capture tool that allows users to create, edit and share videos in Sakai courses and beyond. There are two ways you can manage your course videos.
Built-in Sakai Panopto Folder |
Personal Panopto Folder |
---|---|
Use the Panopto Folder built into your Sakai site. Turn on the “Panopto” tool in Site Info -> Manage Tools and access Panopto through the Sakai left-hand navigation. Manage video through the course; a term-specific Panopto folder is created automatically. | Access Panopto directly and go to your personal “My Folder” in Panopto. Create a subfolder for your course(s). Use that folder to manage video across semesters. Embed your videos manually in Sakai as needed. |

Help Students Enable their Panopto Account
In order to be able to see the videos, your students have to click the Panopto tool in your course (just one time, not for each video). That creates their account and gives them access to the videos in that course. So perhaps that would be a good task for the first day of class. We recommend adding the text below on your Week 1 page or your first Lesson page that has a video. You can also add a short version to the Checklist on the same page.
*In order to activate your Panopto account and make your course lectures visible, please click the Panopto button in the bottom of the left sidebar. This creates and activates your Panopto account so you can see the videos. You only have to do this once in the course. If you have any trouble, please email at@antioch.edu.
Turning on Panopto in Sakai
Panopto is now available in all Sakai courses. If you do not see it in your sidebar:
- Go to Site Info and select Manage Tools
- Scroll to the bottom and open up the External Tools Sections
- Check Panopto
- Click Continue
- Click Finish
- Panopto will appear in the bottom of your sidebar. You can use Site Info --> Too Order to move it on your sidebar.
- Student will need to click the Panopto tool once in your course to gain access to the Panopto videos in your course. After that they can play any Panopto video you embed on a Lesson page.

Panopto Support
If you have questions about using Panopto, you can contact at@antioch.edu with questions. The Panopto Support Website is also very useful! They offer:
- Documentation
- Video Tutorials
- User Forums
- Training Calendar and
- Launch Kit
You will need to create a Support login the first time. We recommend using the exact same email address and password you use for Panopto so there is no confusion.
